- fodder: A consumable, often inferior item or resource that is in demand and usually abundant supply
And so begins my sojourn into the world of sports blogging.
It took only about three-tenths of a second for me to accept the offer to write a daily sports blog. Money. Fame. Exposure. All nice things to aspire for, but Canon Fodder is really intended to be a place for you to stop in and relax for a few minutes each day. This won’t be your final destination on the Internet superhighway, but maybe CF can be a rest stop in the midst of your daily browsing. Pop in, say hello, have a laugh, come away with something for the ride and go about your busy day. No strings. No subscriptions. No products to shill for.
A bit altruistic? Maybe. CF doesn’t intend to be an Internet Utopia. There will be rants and raves. You need not turn here for politics…unless it pertains to sports. If you’re looking for emotionally weighty feel-good stories about sports figures, you’ll need to look elsewhere. Mitch Albom seems to have that market cornered anyway. Though you may need to chew through some of the language, CF won’t pretend to be as cerebral as Gregg Easterbrook. Will CF draw (unflattering) comparisons to Page 2’s Bill Simmons? Jeez, I hope not. I’m a big Simmons fan but I’m not aiming to be a copycat. Are you going to experience something you’ve never seen/felt/heard before? Probably not.
But I hope you’ll laugh.
You will find interesting perspectives on the football, hockey, baseball and maybe even a comment or two about the NBA. Heck, CF might even be home to a PBA preview to prime you for your fantasy bowling league. (“Wes Malott finally had the breakout season we had been waiting for back in 2005-’06, but with a thirtieth birthday looming in November, can he really be expected to continue his stellar production?â€)
Okay, maybe we’ll stay away from the bowling scene. I just don’t think the world is ready for fantasy pro-bowling to takeoff. But when it does, Canon Fodder will be all over it.
In the meantime, we’ll discuss a slew of other sports. You like NASCAR? I don’t but if the gear heads want to discuss which redneck can go fastest while making all left turns, I’m game.
